N.Z. INSTITUTE OF HORTICULTURE
(United Press Association) WELLINGTON March 11.
Efforts for the furtherance of interest in horticulture in the Dominion, including educational work, were considered by the New Zealand Institute of Horticulture at the annual conference today. Work of a national character formed the basis of most of the discussion. The conference pledged its support for the establishment of a national school of horticulture in Christchurch. It decided to urge the Government to consider the incidence of local body taxation as affecting botanic gardens, parks and recreation areas owned by local bodies, and used for public purposes, with a view to alleviating the burden of such taxation. It was decided to direct the Government’s attention to the increasing depredation by deer, cattle and other animals on S'fwart Island and to the urgency of more active measures of extermination. Mr F. S. Pope was elected the new president.
