QUEEN’S PARK CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS FOR “OFF SEASON” Competitions described as “off-sea-son” championships have just been completed by the Queen’s Park Golf Club. Four rounds were played, the first two in fine weather, the third in pouring rain and the fourth in fine weather but on a sodden course. Those who took part in the third round on Saturday afternoon were thoroughly soaked, yet most of them finished the course and some surprisingly good scores were returned. The senior “championship” proved a good thing for J. G. Niccol, the intermediate revealed that B. D. Murgatroyd was easily the best of the field, but the junior trophy went begging because none of those who had entered completed the four rounds. The leading scores were:—

CHALLENGE MATCH SHAW DEFEATS HAGEN (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, March 7. In a challenge match over 18 holes for £5O aside between Walter Hagen, the famous American golf professional, and A. J. Shaw, open champion of the Dominion, on the Miramar links today, Shaw won by one up, covering the course in 72 to Hagen’s 73. HOLING OUT IN ONE (Received March 7, 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, March 6. The Langley Park Golf Club, Kent, has decided that a member holing out in one shall no longer be expected to stand drinks all round, but instead will be the club’s guest for the day.
