Edendale BOWLS

CLUB NOTES A progressive - doubles tournament was held cn the Edendale club’s gfeen on Saturday afternoon, when 24 players, including visitors from the Mataura and Wyndham clubs, participated. The weather was ideal for bowling although at one stage in the afternoon it appeared as if a thunderstorm would put an end to play. Four games of eight heads were played by each bowler, and, as the green was in fine order, a thoroughly enjoyable day’s play resulted. At the conclusion of all games, the winners were announced as follows:— Skips, R. A. Marshall (Edendale) 1, T. Hickey (Edendale) 2; leads, R. Folster (Mataura) 1, J. Gourlay (Mataura) 2; booby prizes, H. S. Raines (Edendale) and G. Giles (Mataura). In presenting the trophies, the president of the Edendale club, Mr. H. S. Raines, expressed the pleasure his club had felt in having been able to entertain their neighbours for the afternoon. Mr C. E. Davey (Wyndham) replied on behalf of the visitors, ’ expressing thanks for the hospitality extended by the Edendale members. The final of • the Edendale club’s championship singles was played during the week between W. Irvine and L. J. Hoskins. The result was a comfortable win for Irvine by 25 points to 11. District players chosen to represent Southland in the annual representative match against Otago, at Dunedin, on Saturday are T. Hickey (Edendale) and N. Stark and G. C. Kerse (Wyndham).
