BRITISH LEASES IN JAPAN

NO EXEMPTIONS AFTER 1942 LONDON, March 2. The British and Japanese governments after several years of negotiation, have reached an agreement for the abolition after 1942 of perpetual leases in Japan held by British traders, who after 1942 will forgo exemption from land and other taxes and will occupy the same position as the rest of the community. It was feared that failing an agreement the Japanese would unilaterally denounce the leaseholders’ status quo.
