NEGLIGENT DRIVING CHARGE

VERDICT OF NOT GUILTY (United Press Association) GREYMOUTH, March 3. The criminal session of the Supreme Court opened at Greymouth today before Mr Justice Northcroft. There was only one criminal case for trial. The Judge congratulated the district on the continued freedom from serious crime. John Cyril O’Donnell, a truck driver, aged 27, was charged with negligent driving, thereby causing the death of William Ramsay Burt in High Street, Greymouth, on August 29 last and with failing to stop to ascertain whether the person was injured and to render all such practical assistance possible. The second charge was laid under the new Motor Regulations, 1936. The jury, after a retirement of 2i hours, returned a verdict of not guilty.
