VICTORIA RACING CLUB NEW RECORD SET (Received March 4, 8.35 pan.) MELBOURNE, March 4. The weather was fine and there was a large attendance at the third day of the Victoria Racing Club’s meeting. Soloist, which had every chance in the hurdle race was beaten for third place in the last stride and will find it difficult to win here as today s field was weak. Prince Quex was a certainty beaten in the Elms Handicap. He was iast at the straight entrance but finished brilliantly. . Caesar outclassed his opponents in the Ascot Vale Stakes. He has now had two wins and two seconds in four starts. He races in the same interest as Fidelity, the winner last year. Demotic enhanced his Australian Cup prospects by a brilliant finish in the River Handicap in which El Senorita led always. Gay Blonde ran a fair race but was troubled by her weight . Jilt had a comfortable win in the Hopeful Stakes. Elmeynelle and Princess Quex were never dangerous. Quasimodo finished fast to set a Flemington record and equal the. Australasian record in the first division of the Welter Handicap. Results:—
