WRIT ISSUED BY U.S.S. CO.

CLAIM FOR DAMAGES IN COLLISION (Received, February 15, 1.30 a.m.) MELBOURNE, February 14. The Union Steamship Company of New Zealand, owners of the Kakariki today issued a High Court write claiming from the owners of the Caradale £50,000 damages, alleged to be occasioned by the recent collision. The Caradale was arrested today when under the authority of the High Court a sheriffs officer nailed a writ to the mast. A message published on Saturday stated that the Marine Court’s finding into the inquiry of the collision between the Kakariki and the Caradale held the master of the Kakariki, Thomas William White, in default for failing to keep out of the way of the Caradale, when, by his action in altering his course to port, the Kakariki became the crowding ship with the Caradale on her starboard bow. Claiming £15,000 as damages for alleged negligence in the navigation and control of the Kakariki, James Patrick and Company, Ltd., owners of the Caradale, have issued a writ against the Union Steam. Ship Company arising out of the; collision.
