(From The Southland Times) DECEMBER 16, 1886. Mayoral Installations—The annual meeting of the Invercargill Borough Council was held yesterday at noon when the incoming Mayor, Mr D. Roche, was installed in the mayoral chair and handed his keys of office. The ceremony of installing the Mayor of East Invercargill, Mr T. Findlay, took place at a special meeting of the council yesterday. News From Home —The mail via San Francisco will arrive by the express today at 4.5 p.m. The special delivery of letters will be made over the counter at the Post Office between the hours of 6.30 p.m. and 8 p.m. Important: Very—The New Zealand Midland Railway Company has adopted as its coat of arms a miner and a shpherd shaking hands, typifying the union of the East and West Coast industries. Interrupted Duel—Wellington, December 15: A duel which two Italians had arranged to fight at Newton today was interrupted by the police.
