Lumsden TOWN BOARD

THE MONTHLY MEETING Mr A. J. Heath presided at the monthly meeting of the Lumsden Town Board. The tender of Mr J. Williamson for the collection of dog taxes was accepted. Mr Williamson was also appointed caretaker of the motor camp. The Works Committee reported that the concreting of the footpath on the east side of the main street had been completed. A request to continue the concrete northwards was declined. It was decided to advise the Main Highways Board that the Town Board was agreeable to the board taking complete control of the Gore-Te Anau highway passing through the township. It was agreed to prosecute property owners who had failed to take steps to clear their property of noxious weeds before the next meeting in January. CALEDONIAN SOCIETY At the annual meeting of the Lumsden Caledonian Society Mr T. Small presided. The election of officers resulted as follows:—Patron, Mr A Drummond; president, Mr T. Small; vice-presidents, Messrs A. McAlister, G. Hamilton, C. Welsh, J. Crosbie, W. Johnson, A. Leitch, A. Heath, W. Dripps. J. Senior, A. Upchurch, A. J. Thompson, L. Cahill, G. Tomlin, L. Clode and Dr Bell; superintendent of sports, Mr G. Johnson; judges, Messrs A. Heath, A. Davidson and T. Soper; starters, Messrs A. Earl and P. Mcßride; handicappers, Messrs W. Murdock and P. Mcßride; clay birds superintendents, Messrs P. O’Callaghan, J. Crawford, B. Monk ana M. Reidy; groundsmen, Messrs C. and T. McDonald and W. Sherriff; blackboard steward, Mr E. Wildey; dancing judges, Messrs T. Reidy and P. Reynolds; steward, Mr W. Little; treasurer, Mr W. Johnston; secretary, Mr R. Robertson. The secretary was instructed to apply for January 20, 1937, as a suitable date for the sports. The offer of Mr Chartres to donate a trophy for most points in dancing, for competitors 10 years and under, was accepted with thanks. It was decided to hold the usual dances on New Year’s Eve and sports night.
