LABOUR DISPUTE IN U.S.A.
UNION ORGANIZATIONS MAY BE EXPELLED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Tampa, November 12. The executive council of the American Federation of Labour decided by 9 votes to 8 in favour of the expulsion of Mr Lewis, president, of the Mine Union, and unions affiliated to the Committee of Industrial Organization. It is expected that a motion of expulsion will be introduced when the convention meets on Monday. On August 5 the Council of the American Federation of Labour ordered the suspension within 30 days of unions headed by Mr Lewis, president of the Mine Union, and having a membership of 1.000.000. unless they dissolved the so-called Committee of Industrial Organization, which was formed to further industrial as against craft unionization within the federation. The council declared that it could not tolerate the existence of a rival organization. The dispute threatened the disruption of the federation.
