THE WEATHER RAIN PROBABLE.

(Special to The Times.) Wellington, October lb. Following is the Dominion Observatory’s special weather forecast for Southland:—

Moderate to strong northerly to north-westerly winds, reaching gale force in places. Weather unsettled and rain probable. Temperatures mild. Seas becoming rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Some scattered rains at first in North Auckland, and on the West Coast of the South Island, but otherwise fair to fine. More generally unsettled conditions, with rain setting in, however, in western districts, during Monday, and extending to other parts during the first half of the week. Temperatures mild. General Situation. —The anti-cyclone, located over New Zealand yesterday, is moving away eastward, so also is the depression which was centred near Norfolk Island. A deep depression is, however, located over the western Tasman and will be affecting the Dominion during the first half of the week. Winds.— North-easterly in the far north, elsewhere northerly to northwesterly. Moderate to fresh at first, but increasing later to gale force in places about and south of Cook Strait. Seas.—New Zealand waters, slight to moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont and in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate northerly to north-westerly winds, increasing and later rising in places to gale force. Seas slight to moderate, but increasing.

The weather was mild in Invercargill over the week-end. There was a light south-easterly wind on Saturday and the temperature was warm. Yesterday the sun shone brightly in the late morning and for the greater part of the afternoon. A light southerly wind was blowing. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine, though the sky was overcast. The barometer readings for Friday, Saturday and Monday have been as follows:— This morning (steady) 29.42 in. Saturday 29.86 in. Friday 29.52 in.
