PROVINCIAL BANDS’ CONTEST

CHRISTCHURCH HIGHLAND WINS QUICKSTEP. (United Press Association.) Christchurch, October 18. Nine pipe bands and five brass bands entered for the annual contest of the Canterbury Provincial Bands’ Association held yesterday. The Christchurch Highland Band won the quickstep and the selection for pipe bands. The Timaru Highland Band was second in the quickstep and the Canterbury Caledonian Band tied with Timaru in the selection. The B grade quickstep in the brass section was won by Ashburton, Christchurch Municipal was second, and the same two bands were first and second, likewise, in the test selection. Timaru Municipal Junior won the C grade quickstep and the selection. Geraldine was second in both cases.
