ITALIAN VICTORY IN MOTOR RACE
TEST OF MAN AND CAR IN AMERICA. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.25 p.m.) New York, October 15. Tazio Nuvolari (Italy), driving an Alfa Romeo, won the George Vanderbilt Cup and 60,000 dollars when he crossed the line first in the motor race of 300 miles. Nuvolari’s time was 4hr 32min 44.045ec, his average speed being 66.99 miles an hour. Wimille (France) was second, taking 12sec more than Nuvolari. Brevio (Italy) was third, Sommer (France) was fourth, and Pat Fairfield (England) won fifth place; McEvoy (Australia), who was originally placed fifth, is now placed sixth. The scorers explained that the error occurred because of the rush at the record finish. The race, inaugurated as the “million dollar Roosevelt race,” is over a twisting four-mile road course, the first in America, and considered the most severe test of man and car in the world.
