CIVIC BAND CONCET

BRIGHT PROGRAMME A PACKED HOUSE To be successful, a concert must cater for every taste; it must be so arranged as to satisfy the audience, as a whole, not one section of the audience. Those who arrange the Invercargill Civic Band’s Sunday evening concerts have realized this fact and have piofited by it. The Civic Band concerts are always popular. This fact was demonstrated again last evening when a. packed house at the Civic Theatre showed its hearty appreciation of the. entertainment provided by the band. The Bluff Maori party occupied a prominent place cn the programme and the members fully earned the generous apolause they received. The Hart children. in particular, were popular with the audience. The instrumental side of the programme was not neglected. Under the conductorship of Mr A. R. Wills, the Civic Band played several enjoyable numbers, demonstrating once again its undoubted merits as a musical combination. The programme was as follows:— Contest March, “The Challenge,” band; hymn, “Roberta,” band; songs, (a) “Kamate”; (b) “Pale Moon,” Mr Mark West; vocal duet, “Ako Ako, o te Rangi,” Miss Kiti and Mr Norman Bradshaw; Hawaiian guitar trio (a) “Honolulu March”; (b) “Hula Melody, Henare Barrett, A. Ryan and Iwi Rita;i songs, (a) “You Started Me Dreaming ;l (b) “I’m in the Mood for Love,” Mr Paki West; “Celebrated Serenata” (by; Toselli), band; choruses, (a) “Haere Mai; Tauhuriri”; (b) “Awarua,” Bluff Maori, Party; saxophone solos, (a) “Saxo-, phobia”; (b) “Ah, Sweet Mystery of; Life,” Mr Norman Wilkes; juvenile quartette, the Hart children,; intermezzo, “A Kiltie s Courtship andl “Believe Me If All Those Endearing, Young Charms,” band; song, Mr West;; poi dance (in costume), the Maori party; march, “Invercargill,” band. Mr Norman Bradshaw, who was the musical director, also acted as accompanist. The programme was relayed by station 4ZP. Reception was good and the. Civic Band authorities received many' congratulatory telephone messages.
