CAR GOES OVER BANK
Three Passengers Injured ACCIDENT NEAR MOSSBURN At 1.30 yesterday morning three men were injured when a car driven by Lancelot William Donaldson, an employee of Mr W. T. Hazlett, Burwood Station, failed to negotiate a corner on the road from Mossburn to the Public Works camp at Mt Hamilton and crashed over a 25-foot bank into a river below.
The driver was unhurt. The three injured men, passengers in the car, were—
Ralph Cole Scott, aged 53, of Victoria street, Invercargill (fractured ribs and scalp wounds). Charles Webb, aged 47, of Bowmont street, Invercargill (compound fracture of both bones in the right lower leg, fracture of collar-bone and head injuries).
Edward Bedwell, aged 25, of Nelson street, Invercargill (head injuries). It was reported last evening that the condition of all three men was quite satisfactory. The men are employees at the Public Works camp at Mt Hamilton. Following the accident, Bedwell, one of the less injured men, scrambled out of the car and, making his way to the road, attracted the attention of a passing motorist. The other men were then extricated from the car and Dr Bell, of Lumsden, was called. After attending to the immediate wants of the men, the doctor summoned the ambulance from Invercargill. Driven by Mr A. Branks, the ambulance left Invercargill at 2.30 a.m., making a fast trip to the hotel at Mossburn, where the men had been put to bed. After receiving medical attention the injured men were brought to the Southland Hospital. They were admitted shortly after 8 o’clock. The car, which was extensively damaged, was yesterday still in the river.
