WEATHER UNSETTLED.

(Special to The Times.) Wellington, September 20. Following is the Dominion Observatory’s special weather forecast for Southland:—

Strong north-westerly winds, reaching gale force in places, but backing, by Monday morning, to west, and later to south-west. Weather cloudy to overcast, with intermittent rain. Temperatures mild at first, but cooler later. Seas rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather clouding over, and rain developing in western and southern portions of the South Island; and unsettled conditions gradually extending over all districts with a westerly aspect. Fair to fine elsewhere. Temperatures mild. General Situation—An anti-cyclone is crossing the northern portion of the North Island, but a westerly depression is advancing across the Tasman Sea. Winds—North to north-west, moderate to strong generally and reaching gale force in many places, south of New Plymouth and Napier; backing tomorrow to west, or, in places, to southwest, over the southern portion of the South Island. Seas.—New Zealand waters, rough south of Cape Egmont, and in the Cook and Foveaux Strait areas. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea, moderate to strong north-westerly winds, backing later to west and southwest in the central and southern portions. Seas moderate, to rather rough, and increasing.

The weather in Invercargill during the week-end was fine and warm. Yesterday a warm northerly wind blew. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine and calm. The barometer readings for Friday, Saturday and Monday have been as follows — This morning (rising) 29.67 in. Saturday 29.62 in. Friday 29.34 in.
