Garston RIFLE CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Garston section of the Wakatipu Defence Rifle Club was held recently. There was a good attendance of members. The annual report and balance-sheet stated:—

“The club’s finances are in a very, sound condition. A target shed is in the course of construction at the butts, which will make the keeping of the targets in order, much easier. The Garston team won the Captain J. Mackenzie Shield last year and put up good performances in the Breweries Cup match and the Mackenzie Challenge Shield match. The principal trophy winners for the past season were:— President’s trophy, Mr L. Blakely; club championship cup, President Mac-, kenzie; runner-up club championship,; £1 special, donated by Mr Kennett, Mr, J. McLeod; Carruthers cup, Mr J. McLeod; P. A. McNamee memorial cup,) President Mackenzie; Whitcombe Cald-j well cup, Mr G. Gordon; 10/— special, donated by Mr.O. McNamee to) most improved shot, Mr W. A. Gor-; don; Anonymous trophy, Mr R. J. Lawrie. The election of office-bearers resulted, as follows:—Chairman, Mr G. Gordon; committee, Messrs G, Gordon, N.) Blakely, W. A. Gordon, O. McNamee,' L. Blakely, J. McLeod and J. Gordon; auditor, Mr N. Blakely; range Messrs J. McLeod and N. Blakely;' officer in charge of butts, Mr G. Gordon; handicapper, Mr J. McLeod; secretary and treasurer, Mr J. H. Gordon. It was decided to hold the Breweries Cup match on Labour Day.
