MANUFACTURE OF SACKS
NEW PROCESS INVENTED BY ASHBURTON ENGINEER. (United Press Association.) Ashburton, September 16. The Minister of Finance (the Hon. D. G. Sullivan) is investigating the possibility of establishing factories for the manufacture of sacks under a cheap, quick process invented by an Ashburton engineer. It is claimed that the hemp is made as soft as wool and silk, tougher than jute and tasteless and damp resisting, and that it can be spun and knitted without fluff. Textile authorities have been impressed with the tests.
