FRESH WATER FISH RESEARCH

PROVISION FOR SOCIETIES TO SUBSCRIBE. (From. Our Parliamentary Reporter.) Wellington, September 16. Provision, for acclimatization societies to contribute towards the cost of fresh water fisheries research is made in the Fisheries Amendment Bill, which was introduced by Governor-General’s Message in the House of Representatives to-night. In terms of the Bill regulations may be made under the principal Act providing for the issue of fishing licences by acclimatization societies at prescribed fees. The regulations may also require societies to pay into the Consolidated Fund portion of the aggregate licence fees and these moneys are to be applied by the Minister of Marine in defraying expenses incurred in research into fresh water fisheries. After a brief explanation by the Minister of Marine (the Hon. P. Fraser) the Bill was read the first time.
