DEATH SENTENCE FOR ARABS
Firing At British Troops (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 10.20 p.m.) Jerusalem, Sept. 16. Two Arabs were sentenced to death for firing at British troops at Nablus. This is the first sentence of the kind since the strike began. A goods train of 20 wagons from Haifa was derailed on a steep gradient, and the guard and a look-out man were severely injured. The military escort fired at the saboteurs, who were concealed in heavy cactus, wounding one. A pumping station on the Jericho road was blown up in a mass of flame. ARRESTS IN SYRIA SMUGGLING OF ARMS SUSPECTED. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) Beirut, September 15. Lebanonese gendarmes surrounded several villages in the Shouf district which were believed to harbour armed bands. While transferring several prisoners the'gendarmes were fired on from a hill. Further arrests followed and 12 rifles and a quantity of ammunition were confiscated. These, it is believed, were being smuggled to Palestine.
