COMMUNISM IN ITALY

SECRET POLICE MAKE ARRESTS I SPREAD OF PROPAGANDA (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.35 p.m.) London, September 10. The correspondent of the British United Press at Rome says that the police have unmasked a powerful Communist organization, with headquarters in Rome and branches in a number of towns. The police seized detailed membership lists, large sums of money and thousands of leaflets. It is understood that the ringleaders, some of whom are said to be high officers in the Fascist Party, have been arrested and imprisoned, in addition to scores of followers. A message from Rome states that the Ministry of Propaganda denies the reported existence of this organization. The Rome correspondent of The Daily Mail, however, says that it is admitted that arrests were made recently by the secret police, who considerably increased their vigilance, owing to the spread of Bolshevik propaganda. ITALY’S REPRESENTATION AT GENEVA ABYSSINIAN EXCLUSION NOT ESSENTIAL. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 5.5 p.m.) Rome, September 10. It is understood that Signor Mussolini will not press his demand for the exclusion of Abyssinia from the League of Nations as essential to Italy’s representation at Geneva, but Haile Selassie will be quietly urged not to send a representative to the Assembly. It is believed that there will be a tacit understanding not to raise the Abyssinian question.
