ATTACK ON RUSSIA

Outburst Bv Dr •/ Goebbels THREAT AGAINST BOLSHEVISM Diplomatic Rupture Feared (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 7.35 p.m.) Nuremberg, Sept. 11. In the most violent attack against Soviet Russia and the Jewish leaders ever delivered by a member of the Government of another country, the Minister of Propaganda (Dr Josef Goebbels), at the annual Nazi rally, called on Europe to engage in a crusade against Bolshevism under German leadership. “Germany does not dare to be silent in the presence of this European peril,” said Dr Goebbels. “Herr Hitler and Germany have a great historic world mission. Bolshevism must be destroyed, if Europe is to become healthy again. The Reds are arming furiously, realizing that Germany is a threat to their existence. Germany has given 1 the signal for a world struggle. Let other countries follow her example. We are proud to have overthrown Bolshevism in our own land, and we will overthrow it everywhere throughout the world.” The special Nuremberg correspondent of The Times says that Dr Goebbels’s attack was not only on Bolshevism in general, but on high officials of the Soviet Government. It made a striking impression everywhere. It is felt that it provides ample explanation for talk heard in serious German and international quarters to-night that diplomatic relations between Germany and the Soviet are being brought deliberately near to breaking point. Dr Goebbels warned Moscow that attempts to disseminate any propaganda in Germany would be met by a ruthlessness surprising even to Moscow. The culmination of the morning’s ceremonies at the rally was an announcement of compulsory labour service for women. Herr Hitler described the labour corps as the finest clement in the German nation. Alarm In France GATHERING WATCHED WITH ANXIETY (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 1.10 a.m.) Paris, September 11. That Germany again threatens to become a cause of European anxiety is the opinion of the French Press, which does not attempt to conceal its uneasiness at Dr. Goebbels’s speech. France is now watching the Nazi gathering at Nuremberg with an anxiety that has forced the Spanish situation and domestic labour troubles into the background, especially as Herr Hitler is expected to wind up the proceedings with an important declaration of foreign policy. Baron von Neurath, the German Foreign Minister, the German Ambassadors in London, Moscow and Pairs, and important Foreign Office officials have arrived in Nuremberg to consult the Fuhrer. Figaro, describing Dr. Goebbels’s speech as the most terrible diatribe ever made against a foreign power, asks what is Germany preparing. The atmosphere becomes more tense as the conference proceeds, it states.

Le Journal sees a rescrudescence of the old German militarism and desire for world domination constituting a grave danger to Europe.
