INVERCARGILL CIVIC BAND

CONCERT TO-MORROW EVENING. In the Civic Theatre to-morrow evening the Civic Band will present another of its popular programmes. The band, whose reputation for hymn playing is Dominion-wide, will open the concert with the hymn “Old Earth.” This will be followed by a concert march, “Southland,” which is a local composition by Mr W. S. McDonald. The other two band numbers are a fantasia, “Fidelity,” a bright composition, and a grand march finale, “Yancowinna.” The vocalists will include Mrs L. Clode, whose tuneful soprano voice is always appreciated. Mr W. Reddington will sing “Rose of Tralee” and “That Old Fashioned Mother of Mine.” Mr George Wybrow, who is always a favourite with Sunday night audiences, is also down for two numbers. Mr Cyril Burns is a Hawaiian guitar soloist of considerable merit and his numbers are sure to please the audience. Bandsmen J. E. Wills, 1935 cornet champion, and J. Storrie, 1936 amateur champion, will be heard in cornet duets. Bandsman L. A. Boyer, one of the band’s junior cornetists, will play Hartman’s difficult solo,“Rule Britannia.” Mr Douglas Robins will play a Wurlitzer piano accordion solo; he is considered an expert on this novel instrument. Miss Mary Fitzgerald will be the accompaniste.
