Mrs W. D. Hyndman, of Invercargill, was a recent caller at New Zealand House, London.
Miss Estelle Wilson has returned to Te Rae, Limehills, after being the guest of Mr and Mrs A. Jamieson, Lintley. Mrs P. C. Wilson, of Riverton, accompanied by her small daughter, has returned from a holiday in Dunedin, where she was the guest of her sister, Mrs W. Webster, Sutherland street. The engagement is announced of Nola Jean, third daughter of Mr and Mrs W. Young, Carfax, Mossbum, to Jack, only son of the late Mr and Mrs James Isaacs, formerly of Lumsden. Mrs I. Macbean Stewart, Glen Failte, Waitane, has returned from Dunedin, where she has been the guest of her mother', Mrs C. S. Reid, Alison, Crescent.
After spending an extended holiday in Invercargill and Dunedin, Mrs Arthur Alloo has gone to her new home in Nelson, where Mr Alloo has been appointed headmaster of the Central School.
Mr and Mrs A. N. Mac Gibbon, Kana street, Mataura, have received advice from their daughter, Miss C. H. MacGibbon, who has been studying at International House, Chicago, U.S.A., that she has obtained her M.H.Sc. degree with first class honours in all her subjects. Miss Mac Gibbon is a passenger for Great Britain by the Queen Mary which left New York yesterday. A plain and fancy dress dance was held in the Quarry Hills hall on Wednesday evening The prize-winners were as follows: Best fancy dresses, Mrs Birse (Japanese) and Mr Eric Crosbie (Santa Claus); first couple on the floor, Miss Alice Macintosh and Mr John Collie; statue dance, Miss Lily Mainland and Mr Carnie. Mr and Mrs Macintosh and Master Macintosh played the music. Members of the Invercargill branch of the Christchurch Girls’ High School Old Girls’ Association spent a pleasant social evening at the home of Mrs W. E. Worsfold, Herbert street, recently, when the monthly meeting was held. Those present included Mesdames F. H. Hughes, T. Mathews, D. Mason (Bluff), G. E. Mathieson, E. F. Smith, J. B. Rowntree, G. G. Douglas, C. R. Wavish (Bluff), J. Yates and C. B. Matthewson.
To celebrate the coming-of-age of their daughter, Barbara, Mr and Mrs A. Adamson, Morton road, gave a party on a recent evening. Dancing occupied most of the evening, with games and items, the usual toasts being honoured. Among those present were Mr and Mrs A. Adamson, Mr and Mrs Greenoulgh, Mr and Mrs D. Adamson; Misses Barbara Adamson, S. Woods, P. Kennelly, J. Adamson, R. Egan, E. Shepherd, J. Donald, M. Grant, J. and K. Adamson; Messrs D. Johnston, A. Broad, A. Stewart, E. Bridgeman, P. Davin, L. Adamson, F. Adamon, I. Nelson, W. Forde and D. Adamson.
