French Workers MARKETS STILL DEPRESSED Influence Extends To London (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 12.55 a.m.) London, September 10. The French political situation is considerably brighter, following the issue of a communique by the French Confederation of Labour, representing several million workers, stating that it will remain faithful to the Government though it asks Cabinet, in conjunction with Britain, to reconsider its decision on neutrality in Spain and urges that the whole Spanish question be referred to the League of Nations. The Communists have also announced that they will vote for the Government to a man. The industrial situation, however, is still unsettled. More than 50,000 workers are still on strike, including 25,000 textile workers at Lille, who have announced that they will occupy the factories until they receive an increase of 10 per cent, in wages. The franc was subjected to heavy selling on the Bourse, which is most depressed. Its influence has even extended to London, where the stock markets generally are lifeless. Herr Hitler’s proclamation at the Nazi Congress at Nuremburg is proving a further adverse influence in Paris.
