SATURDAY FAVOURED

HALF-HOLIDAY IN HASTINGS. (United Press Association.) Hastings, September 9. The biggest meeting of shopkeepers ever held in Hastings in the history of the town decided last evening by 80 votes to 47 in favour of altering the weekly half-holiday from Thursday to Saturday. There were nearly 150 people present, and the discussion lasted over two and a half hours. The effect of the decision will be that applications, said to total at least 120, will now r be forwarded to the Inspector of Awards asking for the change to be made effective from the end of next week. Those in opposition to the change declared their intention of remaining open, so that there is a possibility that unless some amicable arrangement is arrived at in the meantime Hastings will have two late shopping nights— Friday and Saturday.
