TO-DAY’S FIELDS PROSPECTS DISCUSSED The spring meeting of the Wanganui Jockey Club will open to-day. There are only seven events on the card and apart from the chief handicap, goodsized fields are engaged. 12.30 p.m. MAIDEN RACE, £IOO. Special weights. Six furlongs. Golden Anne Mirth Sunny Blonde Missal Black Frost The Buzzer Patagonia Siegmund Sea Wrack The Tramp Recollection Master Limond Kia Tere Gold Bank . Philemup Count Siegfried. Mazzini The racing opens with the Maiden event, with special weights. There are 17 acceptors, most of them being unknown. Siegmund and The Buzzer claim engagements in the Guineas on the second day and they will be favoured here. The Tramp on recent work is a speedy sort and the favourites may be The Buzzer Sunny Blonde Siegmund 1.10 p.m. OKEHU HACK HURDLE HANDICAP. £l4O. One mile, four furlongs and a-quarter.
The Okehu Hurdle Handicap has attracted a useful field. Hunting Jay is top-weight and will have friends. Vaipai is useful and so are Don Erma, Oriel and Midacre. Favouritism may rest between Hunting Jay Oriel Valpai 1.55 p.m. PUTIKI HACK HANDICAP, £l5O. One mile and 110 yards.
There are several smart hacks engaged in the Putiki Hack Handicap. Hunting Maid was backed and beaten at Riccarton, but she will again have many friends. Entheos has earned his weight, while Wotan has a big reputation. Orac can go fast and Leo Colossus may be the best of the others. The favourites may be Hunting Maid Wotan Orac 2.35 p.m. MARANGI HANDICAP. £2OO. One mile and a-quarter.
There are only six acceptors for the Marangi Handicap and the three top weights appear to dominate the position. The order of favouritism may be Hunting Cat Silver Briar Boomerang 3.15 p.m. SEAFIELD HANDICAP, £l5O. Seven furlongs and a-quarter.
Some excellent handicap horses are engaged in the Seafield Handicap with that good horse Jonathan set to carry 10.6. He may be in need of a race. Red Manfred appears to be sound again, while Spiral has some good performances to his credit. Fersen should be the pick of the others and the favourites may be Fersen Spiral Red Manfred 4 p.m. DURIE HACK HANDICAP, £l2O. Six furlongs.
A big field is engaged in the Durie Hack Handicap with some of the Guineas candidates engaged. It should be a fine race with the favourite hard to determine. Well fancied runners may be Brazen King Dawning Light Deficit 4.45 p.m. ci FLYING HANDICAP. £l6O. Six furlongs.
The racing concludes with eight acceptors in the Flying Handicap and a speedy lot they are. Dungarvan is a good horse, but Gallio, Wild Chase and Kane are brilliant. Probably the order of favouritism will be Gallio Wild Chase Dungarvan
