STOP-WORK MEETING

AUCKLAND POWER BOARD EMPLOYEES. (United Press Association.) Auckland, September 9. Tire Auckland Electric Power Board’s outside staff, comprising about 160 linesmen and men engaged in street lighting work, held a stop-work meeting this morning to ventilate various grievances relating to the terms and conditions of employment. On the advice of the general manager, Mr R. H. Bartley, the men began work while their delegates discussed the matter with the board. The points in dispute were payment for “stand-by” time, hours of beginning work and the proportion of assistant linesmen employed. Mr Bartley subsequently stated tha’t a temporary agreement was made pending the hearing of the dispute in the Conciliation Council. The men were working under the old award which did not adequately cover the various classes of employees. It was a difficulty which would have to be solved by a new award.
