CHINESE FOUND DEAD. EVIDENCE AT INQUEST. An inquest was held at Lumsden yesterday, before Mr W. H. Freeman, as Coroner, into the death of Don Tong, a Chinese raceman, aged 42, who late on Tuesday night was found dead in a whare in the back country near Garston. Evidence was given that Don Tong who had been employed as a raceman by the Nokomai Goldmining Company, had left his work on September 3, complaining of illness. Dr L. G. Bell, of Lumsden, gave evidence of having made a post-mortem examination of the body. He had discovered from that examination that the condition of the organs was consistent with epidemic influenza. A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical testimony. BUSINESS MAN’S BODY FOUND. (United Press Association.) Christchurch. September 9. The body of Alfred Selwyn Bruce, a well-known business man, formerly Christchurch manager of E. Reece Ltd., and later Christchurch manager of Briscoe and Co. Ltd., and since 1910 an indentor on his own account, was found on the rocks near Sumner this afternoon. Mr Bruce was the author of a book on the early days of Canterbury. He was well-known for his research into the history of the province. He had evidently fallen from Scarborough cliffs into the sea. MONOXIDE POISONING. (United Press Association.) Masterton, September 9. A verdict of death from monoxide poisoning was returned by the District Coroner, Mr T. E. Lang, at an inquest held at Featherston to-day concerning the death of David George Carman, who was found dead at his home in Featherston early this morning. The body was discovered by Mrs Carman lying alongside a motor car in the car shed. It was stated at the inquest that the engine of the car was running and a piece of hose pipe was attached to the exhaust pipe, the other end leading into a milk can. Carman’s head was close by the milk can. Carman, who was 27 years of age, was a well-known competitor at horse sports and was an accomplished rider.
