Gore Items Miss Margaret Boult, Albany street, left last week on a holiday visit to Roxburgh and Pembroke. Miss Muriel Noble, Dunedin, who has been the guest of Mrs S. Preece, William street, returned north on Saturday. Mrs F. S. Graham, Albany street, was hostess at bridge last Friday afternoon. Miss M. Kelly has returned to Nightcaps after spending the school holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs R. J. Kelly, Albany street. Miss Nancy Preece, William street, left last Saturday morning for Timaru. Mr and Mrs H. W. King, Waimate, who have been spending a holiday in Gore, returned north on Tuesday. Miss Norah Kelly, Okapua, North Chatton, has returned from a holiday in Timaru. Miss Dawn Smith has returned to Dunedin after spending the holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs E. C. Smith, Afton street. Mrs A. T. Pettigrew, Ardwick street, entertained a number of friends at tea on Tuesday afternoon. Mrs John Brown, Devon street, was hostess at bridge on Wednesday afternoon. Mr and Mrs L. A. McKenzie, Dunedin, who have been the guests of Mrs McKenzie’s mother, Mrs M. A. McDowell, Huron street, East Gore, have returned north. Mr and Mrs G. C. Hamilton, Albany street, returned from Blenheim on Tuesday evening with the members of the Eastern Southland representative hockey team. Plunket Society. At the September meeting of the Gore branch of the Plunket Society on Monday afternoon, the president, Mrs H. C. Mac Gibbon, presided and the following members were present: Mesdames Janies Hunter, C. H. Weir, A. V. Latty, R. Fisher, W. H. Sadlier, E. Coventry and J. Harper (secretary). The president welcomed Mrs Coventry, a new committee member. Mrs R. Hamilton forwarded her resignation as a member of the committee, and this was received with regret, the secretary being asked to convey to Mrs Hamilton an expression of the committee’s appreciation of her work over a number of years. It was decided to apply to the pore Borough Council for permission to hold a street stall on Saturday, September 26, this being the branch’s annual effort on behalf of the Karitane-Hunt Hospital. Members were asked to solicit donations of produce, cakes and flowers for the furnishing of the stall which, it was hoped, would prove as satisfactory as previous ones had been.

Otautau Notes Mr and Mrs J. E. Stevens returned from a holiday in Dunedin on Monday. Mrs Low, Kapuka, is the guest of Mrs Daly. Miss Rose Jellyman, Invercargill, spent the week-end with her parents. Miss Sally Stewart, Dunedin, visited Otautau during the week. Miss Sinclair, Port Chalmers, is the guest of Mr and Mrs G. Sinclair. Mrs Johnston, Drummond, has been spending a few days with Mrs Gutschlag. Mr and Mrs W. Chamberlain spent the week-end with Mr and Mrs Ledingham. A bathroom evening was given in honour of Miss Margaret Campbell at the residence of Mr and Mrs J. Paterson prior to her marriage. A pleasant time was spent with games and competitions and dancing, and items were given by the Misses Campbell, Messrs A. Coulter and W. Symons. Miss Campbell was asked to open the gifts, after which she returned thanks. Miss Campbell was also the guest of honour at a gift evening held under the auspices of St. Andrew’s Scottish Society. Music for dancing vzas supplied by the Green Valley orchestra, and extras were played by Messrs J. Thomson and Horman. Items were given by the following: Songs, Miss Campbell, Mrs Buxton, Messrs Ferguson and A. Coulter; dance, Miss Maxwell; pianoaccordion selection, Mi - Horman. Mrs Cuppies and Mr Jellyman were the accompanists. Mr G. D. Low asked Miss Campbell to accept the many gifts and in presenting her with a wringer and a bouquet, (made by Mr Spencer), on behalf of the members of the society, wished hex - success in the future. Mr R. King responded. A social and dance held by the members of the Scotts Gap branch of the Women’s Division of the Fannei's’ Union was held in the Scotts Gap hall in aid of the piano funds. Mrs J. C. Kane, the president, extended a welcome to all of -thos. present. Music for the dance was supplied by Mr and Mrs Ridder and Messrs King and Horman, while Mr S. Cook was master of ceremonies. The statue waltz was won by Miss Sal ton and Mr Maxwell. The following contributed items: Sword dance, Miss N. Maxwell; mandolin and piano duet, Misses R. Salton and L. Maxwell; soniin costume, “Let’s Grow Old Together,” Misses Ridder; action song in costume, Misses Maxwell. Competitions were won by the following: Cigarettes, “Three Friends,” Scotts Gap; pewter tray, Mrs “J. H.”; knives, Miss O. Mclntosh (Otautau); table centre, Mrs J. N. Keen (Aparima).

Bluff Notes Miss George, Tussock Creek, is the guest of Mrs A, C. McKillop, Bradshaw street. Miss Hannah McLeod, Point road, who has been spending a holiday in Dunedin, returned to Bluff during the week-end. Miss Nan McDonald, Burrow?; street, who has been on a visit to her aunt, Mrs C. R. Foster, Thornbury, returned home on Sunday. Mrs H. C. Gimblett and her children, Gladstone, Invercargill, who have been spending a holiday with Mrs F. H. Pearce, Athleney street, have returned home. Mrs Eric Greenwood, Invercargill, is the guest of Mrs Bertram McDonald, Walker street. A successful dance organized by the members of the Foveaux Club was held in Barber’s Hall on Monday night. Benfell, Bann street, on Tuesday afternoon to say farewell to their lion, secretary, Mrs Phillipson, who leaves Bluff shortly to live in Christchurch. After afternoon tea Mrs Benfell, on behalf of the members of the union, presented Mrs Phillipson with a Doulton bowl, expressing regret at losing such an enthusiastic member, and wishing Mrs Phillipson every happiness in her new home. Mrs Phillipson responded. Lumsden Notes Mrs J. MacPherson, Invercargill, is spending a holiday in Lumsden as the guest of Miss Moffitt. Miss M. Menzies, Invercargill, was a visitor to Lumsden last week-end. Miss T. Menzies, who has been spending the school holidays with her aunt, Mrs Withington, Invercargill, has returned home. Mr and Mrs J. Bain, Christchurch, are visitors to Lumsden. Mr and Mrs A. Hopkins, Wyndham, and their family were the guests of Mrs W. T. Johnston recently. Mr and Mrs W. Menlove have now taken up residence in Queenstown. Mr and Mrs J. McDonald, Invercargill, were the guests of Mrs G. F. Johnson for the week-end. An enjoyable bridge evening was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. G. Menlove last week. The proceeds went to assist the Anglican Church funds. The evening was spent with progressive bridge. After supper the Rev. H. Fallows thanked those present for their attendance and also Mrs Menlove for arranging the function. He presented Mrs A. McDonald and Mr W. Wrights Bush Notes On a recent evening the Wright’s Bush Football Club held its annual ball. During the evening Mr G. McDonald presented Mr W. McKenzie with a fountain pen in recognition of his services to the club. The winners of the lucky spot waltz were Miss M. Smith and Mr I. McCallum, and the Monte Carlo was won by Miss F. Houston and Mr M. Ronald. Music was supplied by the Bellbird orchestra and Mr M. Hamilton played an extra. Mr W. Swann was master of ceremonies. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs G.
