Mrs J. Williamson, Lumsden, is spending a holiday at Waikaia. Mr and Mrs A. Barber, Lochiel, have been spending a holiday at Charlton.
Mr and Mrs T. M. Mackay, Lumsden, leave this morning for Hokitika.
Mr and Mrs G. H. Hansen, of Arrowtown, arc the guests of Mrs Birss, Compton road. Miss R. Waghorn has returned to Lochiel from a holiday spent with her parents at Kapuka.
Mrs T. G. Giller, Sydney street, is visiting her mother, Mrs J. B. Sutton, “The Willows,” Otapiri.
M and Mrs W. E. Hunt, Waitoru, Wallacetown, left yesterday by car on a short visit to Christchurch.
Mrs E. Brash, of Titiroa, accompanied by Miss E. Brash, was the guest of Mrs A. Brash, Lumsden, recently. Mrs H. Dagg has returned to Otago Central after spending an extended holiday with Mrs J. McFetridge, Lumsden.
Miss Joan Ritchie, Invercargill, was the guest of Miss Pearl Anderson, Durham street, Winton, during the week.
On severing her connection with the New Zealand Insurance Company, Invercargill, Miss Florrie Woods, Bluff, was presented with a silver tea service. Miss M. Townley, of Christchurch, who has spent the past two months with her brother, Mr A. Townley, and Mrs Townley, at Lochiel, has returned north.
Mrs A. H. Ryder, Beatrice street, was hostess at bridge on Thursday evening in honour of Mrs R. S. Mclnnes, Duke street, who leaves shortly to live in Wellington.
Mrs F, Bickley, accompanied by her infant daughter, has returned to Thornbury after spending a few days with her mother, Mrs J. P. Anderson, Durham street, Winton. In honour of Miss Mavis Turnbull, Wellesley, who is to be married this evening, Mrs P. P. Wimsett, Hollywood Terrace, was hostess at afternoon tea. The guest of honour was presented with a crystal bowl. Recent guests at Hotel Deschler included Mr and Mrs Shcrriff (Dunedin), Miss Leckie (Wyndham), Mr and Mrs V. McCauley (Lumsden), Mrs Padget and son (Parawa), Miss Wilkinson (Wellington), Mr and Mrs Restell (Riverton), Mr and Mrs S. Mollison (Wellington), Mr and Mrs R. O. Andrews (Napier), Miss L. Dow (Dunedin).
There was a good attendance of youth workers and their friends at a social held in the Sunday School Hall. There was a programme of indoor games, the winners being Misses L. Simpson, I. Howe, N. Smith, and F. Crump. Songs were sung by Mrs J. Burleigh, Miss H. Stewart and Mr A. Malcolmson. Mrs O. N. A. Macpherson was accompaniste.
Guests at the Grand Hotel during the week included Miss A. McDevitt (Oturehua), Miss Crosbie (Mossburn), Miss Cameron (Queenstown), Mrs and Miss McGregor (Mt. Linton), Madame J. Carreras (Florence, Italy), Mr and Mrs Ewart (Sydney), Mrs and Miss Scandrett (Tasmania), Mr and Mrs McGibbon (Rotorua), Miss Cross and Miss Clover (Auckland), Mrs and Miss Ashley (Wellington) and Mr and Mrs Swale (Christchurch). A school concert held in the Tisbury hall attracted a large audience from all parts of the district. The programme was supplied by the members of the Donovan family and assisting performers. The chairman thanked the residents of the district for their support, and the performers for their varied and enjoyable programme. Mi- F. Donovan, sen., replied. Mr Ralph Wilson played the accompaniments. The remainder of the evening was spent in dancing to music supplied by Mr R. Wilson and Mr R. Raper.
The fourth annual ball of the combined Foresters’ lodges took place in Smith’s Hall where members of the committee had decorated the room with coloured streamers. P.C.R.’s Brothers J. Holland, C. Jack, J. Burtenshaw and E. V. Edge were masters of ceremonies. Music was played by the Troubadours’ orchestra. The committee responsible for the arrangements was: C. Sister E. Styles, P.C.R. Sister H. Bishop, Sister A. Shepherd, P.C.R. Brother J. Holland, P.C.R. Brother C. Jack, P.C.R. Brother J. Burtenshaw, P.C.R. S. Burns, Brothers J. C. Pascoe and P. Giles, P.C.R. Brother E. V. Edge (chairman), P.C.R. Sister M. Bishop and P.C.R. Brother W. Feaver (secretaries). P.C.R. Brother W. Bridges and his partner led the grand march. Recently a pleasant evening was spent in the Tudor Lounge in honour of the coming of age of Miss Mavis James, Chelmsford street. The guests were received by Miss James and her mother and the evening was spent in dancing, Mr I. Jefferies acting as master of ceremonies. Items were given by Messrs H. Grace, P. Stokes and V. Russell. During the evening, Miss James was presented with a gold key, her father replying on her behalf. Among those present were: Mr and Mrs F. James, Mrs F. Roe; Misses M. James, M. Trail, I.
