WOMEN CRICKETERS.
Several members of the English women’s cricket team that visited Australia and New Zealand something over a year ago were prominent in a women’s match played at Kennington Oval recently. E. Snowball, wicketkeeper of the team that came out here, organized an England eleven to play a team from Surrey, Middlesex, and Kent, but as several of the players she wanted were unable to obtain leave of absence from their employment, she found it difficult to get a side together. Five of the members of the Surrey, Middlesex and Kent team were in the touring side New Zealand saw. For these counties, M. Maclagan and M. Child, both of Surrey, put on 72 for
the first wicket, with excellent batting. Maclagan was out first, after scoring 38. M. Child went on to 74. Her second partner was M. Hide, also of Surrey, who scored 33. The first 100 runs of the innings were put on in 80 minutes. Later, M. Taylor scored 24. The counties declared at 196 for eight wickets; four members of the team that came to New Zealand had made 169 of the runs. The England eleven scored 126 for five wickets.
