Gore RUGBY FOOTBALL

EASTERN SOUTHLAND SUB-UNION

At the weekly meeting of the management committee of the Eastern Southland Rugby Football Sub-Union last night there were present:—Messrs J. W. Aitken (president), H. G. Wallis, I. W. Martin, J. M. Boyne, T. Gray, A. H. Davidson, F. M. Murray and F. Wallis, jun. Permission was granted the Schools’ Football Committee to play a match at Balfour on August 15 between representatives of Eastern Southland and Northern schools. Permission was also granted to hold a seven-a-side tournament at Gore on September 19. It was agreed to provide medals for the seven-a-side tournament. The secretary of the Otago University Club advised that September 2 had been decided on for a visit to Gore. The team would be practically at A team strength and would be under the management of Mr H. A. Fookes. It was decided to invite the South Otago Sub-Union to send a team to Gore on August 26. Advice was later received that the date was acceptable. The secretary of the Southland Union (Mr A. J. Hamilton) advised that in all probability a Town team would be sent to Gore on Wednesday, September 9. Mr Gray was appointed manager of the Eastern senior team to play Central at Gore on Wednesday and Mr J. Cunningham manager of the junior team. It was decided to play a further final of the third grade competition between the Pioneer and Mataura teams at Mataura next Wednesday, the teams having played a drawn game on Wednesday last. The following first grade fixtures were set down for Wednesday:—Pioneer v. Wyndham; Albion v. Pukerau. Both matches will be played at Gore. Repreentative Teams. The selector (Mr F. Wallis, jun.) announced the following senior representative team to play Central at Gore on Wednesday:— H. Tutty (Pioneer); H. W. Milne (Albion), A. Crawford (Pioneer), I*. Sutherland (Albion); J. Adam (Mataura), J. Miles (Pioneer); G. McLennon (Wyndham); E. Soper (Albion), H. Renshaw (Mataura), B. K. Henderson (Albion), J. McKenzie (Wyndham), W. Southern (Albion), B. Herron (Pukerau), C. Veitch (Pioneer), R. Ward (Albion). . Emergencies: Forwards, A. Spittle (Albion), T. Keown (Albion); backs, M. Maher (Albion), D. McCaughan (Wyndham). The junior selectors (Messrs J. A. Edwards, F. J. Townsend and W. Forbes) announced the following team to play Central:— Crosbie (Wyndham); L. Crawford (Pioneer), Newman (Pioneer), McKelvie (Wyndham); Johnston (Wyndham), O’Hagen (Pukerau); Taylor (Pioneer); Robins (Pioneer), Deans (Albion), Smith (Albion), Chalmers (Pioneer), F. Edwards (Pukerau), Mattingly (Pioneer), O. McKay (Wyndham), Kelly (Pioneer). Emergencies: Backs, McDougall (Albion) and B. Edwards (Pukerau); forwards, R. McKay (Wyndham) and Stewart (Albion). GOLF Following is the draw of the Gore Golf Club for foursome handicaps to be played to-morrow and Wednesday.— Saturday.—Fraser and Atkins; Piper and Douglas; Smith and Martin; Wilson and Kidd; Tansley and Caverhill; Stevenson and Sadd; Aitken and Feast; Dolamore and Hunter.
