EXPLOSION IN SHOP
BUILDING NEARLY WRECKED BY GELIGNITE OR BOMB. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 8.30 p.m.) Melbourne, July 31. A butcher’s shop conducted by Mr Harold Lugg in East Ballarat was almost wrecked overnight by an explosion of gelignite or a bomb, but nobody was injured. Refrigerating plant valued at £250 was destroyed. Two women living next door received a great shock. They told the police that they heard a dog barking angrily for some time. A detective discovered 15 feet of burnt fuse running from the backyard into the refrigerating room at the rear of the shop. Mr Lugg, who lives two miles away, expressed the opinion that the outrage was committed by someone with a grudge against him.
