MEETING FORESTALLED
PASSAGE OF PREVENTION OF PROFITEERING BILL. (United Press Association.) Christchurch, July 30. In the matter of speed the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce has been outstripped by the Government. To consider the Prevention of Profiteering Bill a general meeting of members of the Chamber had been called for this morning, but the gathering of business men had lost its sting, as the Bill went through the Lower House last night. When the meeting ended after about half an hour’s discussion, the secretary said that speakers had pointed out that urgency had been granted the Bill and that certain amendments had been made.
The question was referred to the Chamber’s legislation committee, which will meet to-morrow evening to prepare a report. ____
