SOUTHLAND FORECAST. (Special to The Times.) ■Wellington, July 21. Following is the Dominion Observatory’s special weather forecast for Southland:— Moderate northerly to northwesterly winds prevailing, and gradually freshening. Weather fine at first, but later clouding over and scattered rains developing. Temperatures becoming milder. Seas moderate to rather rough.

Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather still changeable and squally in the North Island and the north-east portion of the South Island, with passing showers, but improving shortly; elsewhere fair to fine. Temperatures cold, with sharp

inland frosts. General Situation—A rather intense anti-cyclone covers the North Tasman Sea, and extends across southern New Zealand. A depression is still located east of the North Island, but is passing slowly away. Winds—Light and variable south of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, with northerlies predominating; elsewhere moderate to strong southerly, reaching gale force at places, but decreasing gradually. Seas —New Zealand waters, rather rough north of East Cape and rough to high, but decreasing to-morrow, elsewhere, north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura slight to moderate, thence southwards; eastern Tasman Sea, fresh, but decreasing, south-west winds in the northern portion, with a considerable swell, moderate westerlies and moderate seas in the southern portion. The weather in Invercargill yesterday was fine but cold. A light shower of rain fell about 6 p.m., but this was of short duration. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine, but the sky was overcast. The barometer readings for the last three mornings have been as follow:— This morning (steady) 29.98 in. Yesterday 29.95 in. Monday 29.65 in.
