DOCTORS BAG STOLEN

MAN SENT TO PRISON FOR A MONTH. (United Press Association.) Wellington, July 21. What was described as a serious offence, which might have made the difference between life and death, was heard in the Magistrate’s Court this morning, before Mr W. H. Woodward, S.M., when Joseph William Mischefski, aged 35, was charged with the theft of a leather bag, containing the medical equipment of Dr. T. Thorp, from the Royal Hotel last evening. The police stated that Dr. Thorp called to see a patient at the hotel, and left his bag in the hall. When he returned the bag was gone. A constable and the doctor later overtook the accused hurrying along with the bag in his hand. The accused said that he thought the bag contained beer, and if the Court would give him a chance, he promised to take out a prohibition order for life.

The accused was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment.
