Joe Payne, coal miner, soccer player, smasher of all records, playing for Luton Town against Bristol Rovers recently in a third division game vital to Luton in its struggle to remain at the top, scored 10 goals from the centreforward position. He was chosen for the position only after two other centres had been injured. Payne’s score was the largest individual effort in any one game under the control of the Football Association. .
