LORNEVILLE STOCK SALE

FAT CATTLE PRICES IMPROVEMENT OF ABOUT 25/RECORD PRICE FOR THE SEASON Smaller yardings at the weekly Lorneville stock sale yesterday led to a firm market for all sorts. The feature of the sale was the price of £2O 12/6 paid for an outstanding bullock offered by the National Mortgage and Agency Co., Ltd., on account of Mr J. Calder. This is stated to be a record price for the season. The fat sheep market was a buoyant one with values firm on recent rates. There was a brisk sale all round and in most classes increases on recent values were recorded. The yardings yesterday and those of last week were as follows:—

Fat Cattle. The fat cattle entry was a smaller one than usual and although there were some very good quality bullocks, heifers and cows yarded, there was a fairly large percentage of unfinished sorts. Owing to the small entry the sale was a bright one, values showing an increase of about 25/- a head. One out- I standing bullock realized £2O 12/6. Prime quality bullocks made £l3 to £l5; good quality £ll to £l2; handy ! weights £9 10/- to £lO 10/-; lighter £7 10/- to £8 10/-; prime quality cows I up to £lO 12/6; good quality £8 10/- 1 to £9 10/-; medium £6 15/- to £7 i 10/-; poorer quality £4 10/- to £5 5/-; I prime quality heifers up to £9 12/6; 1 handy weights £7 15/- to £8 10/-; i lighter weights £6 5/- to £7 and smaller £4 10/- to £5 10/-. There was a good demand for winter calvers, but factory calvers were hard to quit. The best winter cow, although not in the best condition, made £5 and I others from £3 15/- to £4 17/6. Prime quality ewes made up to 28/6, good quality 26/- to 27/-, medium 23/- to 24/6, lighter 19/- to 21/-, and unfinished down to 15/-. There were only three pens of store sheep yarded. The top price was 29/9 for 20 two-tooth ewes. Wright, Stephenson and Coy., Ltd., sold on account of a client at Ryal Bush, 69 ewes at 18/5. The Southland Farmers’ Co-opera-tive Association, Ltd., sold: On account of R.
