The Social Round

The Lady Editor will be pleased to receive for publication in “The Social Round” each day items of social or personal news. Such items should be sent in promptly and should be fully authenticated. Lithgow, Winton, has left to spend a holiday in the north. Miss Billy Beasley, Dunedin, is the guest of Miss Gladys Lithgow, Winton. Mr and Mrs G. E. D. Butson, of Waihoaka, are spending a holiday in Christchurch and on the ' Zest Coast.

Miss Clara Wyatt, Duke street, has left to take’up her duties as assistant mistress at the Mariwai School, Gisborne.

Misses Elsie and Catherine Irwin, of Dunedin, are spending a brief holiday with their parents, Mr and Mrs William J. Irwin, Terrace road, Mataura. Yesterday afternoon Mrs J. D. Gilmore and Mrs H. Rewi Kingsland were joint hostesses at afternoon tea in honour of Mrs Frederick Jones, Scandrett street. The party was held at the home of Mrs Gilmore, Don street. The Queen Carnival in aid of the Bluff Plunket Society’s funds is creating keen interest. On Friday the committee of the Green Princess (Miss Shirley Hart) held a successful street day, while at night good business was done with stalls and a chocolate alley. A big crowd gathered and was entertained with a community sing by the children.

The Pahia Basketball Club held a dance in the Pahia lall recently. The hall was decorated in the club colours, blue and white, and the music was supplied by the Kapai Dance Band. During the evening items were given by Messrs Wixon and Belsham. The winners of the various novelty dances were Miss B. McKay and Mr C. Knowler (spot waltz), Miss Clark and Mr D. McPherson (lucky ball dance) and Miss J. Linton and Mr D. DJdfield (Monte Carlo one-step). Masters of ceremonies were Mr N. Dudfield and Mr D. Popham. There was a large attendance at the dairymen’: ball at Otautau on Friday evening, visitors being present from Balfour, Gore, Invercargill, Riverton, Tuatapere, Orawia, Nightcaps, Wreys Bush and the surrounding districts. The hall was decorated for the occasion. The committee responsible for the arrangements included Messrs G. D. Low (chairman), A. Beange (secretary), L. Collie, John Smith, A. Smellie, Arthur James, J. D. Clouston and B. Manson. Music was supplied by the Ambassadors’ orchestra, while extras were played by Mr R. H. Sutherland (piano). Mr A. Jam"s was master of ceremonies.
