THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS

INVERCARGILL UNION COMPETITION RESULTS Four competitions were recently arranged by the Invercargill branch of the League of Nations Union for secondary school pupils. They were in posters, lettering, maps and graphs- or diagrams, and each one was to emphasize some idea concerning the League or world peace. The object of the Invercargill branch was to assist the Peace Exhibition which is to be held in Dunedin this week. The judging of the Southland work was undertaken by Mrs F. M. Corkill and the Rev. C. J. Tocker, who stated that they were greatly pleased with the high quality of the handiwork and the aptness of the allusions. In the posters there was some splendid drawing and original ideas, and the lettering was very artistic and the quotations were well chosen. In the maps the drawing was particularly good, although the ideas they sought to convey were not always at once apparent. In the large number of graphs and diagrams there was a little lack of variety. The branch hopes at a later date to exhibit in Invercargill the best handiwork from the exhibition. The results of the competitions are as follows:— Posters to illustrate a League or Peace Idea (25 entries). —Yvonne Reid (Southland Girls’ High School) 1. Special prizes: R. S.
