OBITUARY
MR WILLIAM DOUGLAS. The death is reported from London of Mr William Douglas, a former resident of Invercargill. Mr Douglas, who was general manager for Fullers Theatrical Comnany in Australia, was a son of Mr James Douglas, well-known to early Invercargill residents as the manager of Fullers moving picture show in the Zealandia Hall. Mr Douglas was born in Melbourne, where his father at that time was proprietor of the famous Melbourne Waxworks, and came to Invercargill, with his parents, as a young man. He married Miss Raeside, daughter of Mr Andrew Raeside, a former Mayor of Invercargill. On joining Fullers Company in Australia, he gained rapid promotion and soon held one of the highest positions in the theatrical world. MR WALTER JOHN ELLIOTT. FATHER OF N.Z. UNIVERSITY LECTURER. (United Press Assn.—Telegraph Copyright.) (Rec. 6.30 p.m.) Sydney, June 21. Mr John Elliott, a former chief inspector of secondary education in New South Wales, died suddenly at Strathfield to-day. He was 69 years of age. The late Mr Elliott was the father of Mr Ronald Elliott, Lecturer in Classics of the University of New Zealand.
