SOUTHLAND FORECAST. (Special to The Times.) Wellington, June 21. Following is the Dominion Observatory’s special weather forecast for Southland: — Moderate to fresh south-westerly to westerly winds. Weather mainly fair to cloudy but scattered showers in far southern and western areas. Seas moderate to rather rough. Following is the Dominion forecast:— Weather fine generally but a few isolated showers probable in the far north and south. Cold night temperatures with many frosts and morning fogs. General Situation. —Pressure is still low to the east and a very slight depression is located west of Cape Maria Van Diemen, but an anti-cyclone extends across the Tasman on to the Dominion. Winds easterly at first in the far north and westerly in the far south, otherwise southerlies predominating. Force light to moderate mainly but strong on parts of the east coast. Seas in New Zealand waters: Considerable but decreasing southerly swell south cf East Cape. Elsewhere slight to moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate southerly winds veering to westerly in the southern portion. Seas moderate. The weather was unsettled in Invercargill over the week-end. On Saturday a strong north-westerly wind brought frequent heavy showers of rain throughout the day. Yesterday the wind had dropped and the weather was milder. At one o’clock this morning the weather was fine and calm. The barometer readings for Friday, Saturday and Monday have been as follows: This morning (rising) 29.85 in Saturday 29 63in Friday 29.72in'
