Messrs Francis Drake (Wellington) and A. G. Strachan (Dunedin) are guests at the Grand Hotel. Mr George F. Rox, manager of the Long Tack Sam Company, arrived in Invercargill on Saturday to complete arrangements for the company’s forthcoming season. Dr G. Craig, who retired from the position of Comptroller of Customs last year, has returned to London from Spain after a five months’ visit. He was accompanied by Mrs Craig and their daughter. Mr R. E. Kirk, at present sole teacher at Py.amid, has been appointed first assistant at the Mataura School in place of Mr J. -Moore, who was recently transferred to Maori Hill, Dunedin. Mr Kirk will take up his duties in September. The Rev. H. K. Archdall, formefly headmaster of King’s College, Auckland, and now chaplain of Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, has been appointed co-convener, with Dr T. H. Oldham, of the Research Committee of the Institute of Christian Education, London. Mr P. R. Climie, secretary of the Canterbury Progress League, has been appointed goodwill officer to assist the employment division of the Labour Department in Canterbury with the placement scheme and other employment schemes. Mr Climie was a member of the Unemployment Board. He was appointed secretary of the Canterbury Progress League when that body was founded in 1918. He was also instrumental in the formation of the Canterbury Aero Club, of which he has been secretary from the beginning.
