BOY DROWNED. (United Press Association.) Thames, June 19. Ryden Basil Chapman, aged six, a son of Mr H. Chapman, a farmer of Waitakaruru, Hauraki Plains, was drowned to-day when he fell off a bridge on the farm where he had been fishing. The body was recovered in the afternoon in eleven feet of water. An inquest will be held to-morrow. WOMAN KILLED IN COLLISION. (United Press Association.) Ashburton, June 18. One woman was killed and another seriously injured in a collision on the Main South road, near Winslow, last evening. The victim was: Mary Emily Lowe, a single woman, aged 27, a daughter of Mr and Mrs W. T. Lowe, of Hinds. , The person injured was: Mrs G. H. Farrell, of Hinds, a sister of Miss Lowe, who received a fractured skull and was admitted to hospital in a serious condition. The car, which was driven by a brother, Thomas Peter Lowe, contained also the father, mother, and Miss Watson, of Hinds, and it collided with a car driven by De Lacy Cameron, a commercial traveller. ■, « . Cameron’s car was first deflected from its course by a slight collision with a third car driven by William H. Simmonds, of Lowcliffe. Lowe was travelling behind the? latter. The whole side of Lowe’s car was stripped off, and it is thought Miss Lowe was killed instantaneously.
