COUSIN BETTY’S LETTER

My dear Cousins,

First of all, I must tell you why the “Jack Frost” poems are not being published this week. The Printer-man says very firmly, “No space.” I know you are disappointed, but next week we will have a special Winter Page, and they will appear then. A Winter Page would not be a Winter Page without Jack Frost. I wonder how many of my cousins will see Titania’s Palace? Do make a very specially special effort to inspect it, you will find it well worth while. Do you know that the satinwood piano it contains is so small and dainty, that sharpened_match-sticks are used to strike the keys? It will play real music, too. I think the Palace must be every girl’s dream of the perfect doll’s house. Boys will marvel at the wonderful electric system, and wish they, too, could create something as intricate. I know you will go if you possibly can, so I have called our new competition “Titania’s Palace.” You will notice a new type of puzzle this week. lam curious to know how you will answei’ it, so I am giving a prize of a free ticket for Titania’s Palace, to the best entry sent in by the date set. Neatness will also be taken into consideration. The response for the Book Club Corner has been very good, and I was not able to print all the contributions. You are showing me how much you enjoy reading, and I hope your recommendations will be of use to other cotisins. And now I have an item of news which I am sure you are all anxious to hear. The Princess with the leading numbei - of votes is Cousin Colleen Gerrard of the Golden Glory Clan. Next in line is Cousin Jeanette Moore of the Holly Clan. I wonder who will be at the top next week? My room has been crowded with ideas and plans this week. When I try to concentrate, they come and whisper in my ear, until at last I have to stop and listen to them. They fly out of your letters when I am not looking, and I find it impossible to keep them under lock and key. Perhaps next week there will be more suggestions arriving to keep them company. Two more special prizes of 2/- go out this week. One is carried to Mataura Island, to Cousin Joyce Howden, and the other travels to Cousin Constance Lloyd. Congratulations, my cousins, your fifty marks were the result of hard and consistent work for the page. , I always speak so proudly of Our Page. Doesn t a proud and happy feeling steal over you when you think of the little bit you do to make Our Page what it is? Our Page is part of us, and we have reason to be proud of it. You will receive such a surprise when you come into my room next visiting day. The walls are ever so happy because they have two new coats of paint, and they think they are quite the smartest walls in the whole wide world. Just watch the pioud smiles on their faces when you enter the room. Their gaiety is infectious, and I feel quite cheery whenever I look at them. Little Southlanders from the country districts do not need to be told to climb up to see me whenever they are in town, do they? I expect there will be a large number in town in the next two weeks, and I hope to see many of you smiling your way into my room, Your loving
