“CATERPILLAR” DIESEL TRACTOR FIRST OF SMALL MODELS REACHES INVERCARGILL. REVOLUTIONIZING POWER COSTS. Great interest was shown last week in a new small model “Caterpillar” Diesel tractor which arrived in Invercargill to the order of a well-known Southland farmer. This machine is the latest product of the Caterpillar Tractor Coy. (late Holt) and is the first of their smaller Diesels to reach New Zealand. The “Caterpillar” Diesel R.D.4. tractor is the smallest Diesel tractor produced in America to-day—a new modern compact tractor of 35 drawbar horsepower, with 5 forward speeds and offering remarkable fuel economy. This new product uses cheap heavy fuels costing less than half as much per gallon as motor spirits and uses less than half the quantity of fuel to deliver the same power as a sparkignition type of engine. It is an interesting fact that the Caterpillar Tractor Coy. were first in the field with track tyoe tractors and first in the field with a successful Diesel tractor. After intensive research dating from 1926, this company offered its first Diesel powered tractor in 1931 Since then they have produced over 10,000 Diesel units comprising tractors, road graders and stationary engines. Built to the world famous “Caterpillar” standards this new model Diesel tractor offers new low costs to smaller power users. The local agents—Messrs Shiels Jenkins Coy., Ltd., Dee street —will be pleased to arrange a visit of inspection for anyone interested. This is an outstanding new tractor that must be seen in action to be appreciated.—Advt.
