I want to congratulate the younger writers. Tire nine and ten year-olds are writing almost as well as their older cousins, and if they keep improving I will be a very proud and pleased Cousin Betty. 386th COMPETITION. Cousin Isobel is a tried verse writer, but she tends to leave her sentences incomplete. The last sentence could be improved by substituting “then” for “for”, and changing the last line for a smoother combination of words. It is quite like old times to have a “Jellyman” in our prize list, and if Cousin Dorothy works hard to improve her verse this should not be the last time. I think it would be best, Cousin Constance, to avoid having verses of three lines. It would be wiser to concentrate on a simple form of poem until you feel you are really a proficient versewriter. 387 th COMPETITION. Poem for all Cousins: “Jack Frost.” Story for all Cousins: “A School Story.” Entries close TUESDAY, June 16. 388th COiMPETITION. Poem for Cousins 12 and over: “Pictures in the Fire.” Essay for Cousins 11 and under: “Why I like being a Little Southlander.” Entries close TUESDAY, June 23.
