PIG MARKETING
FARMERS’ SUPPORT FOR ASSOCIATION The activities and aims of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association were fully ventilated at the Auckland Provincial Conference of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. A remit to the effect that the conference exhorts all members in the Dominion to give the fullest possible support to the association as the only co-operative body handling pig meat owned by the farmers was brought forward by Mr R E. Clements (Awakino Point), and received practically unanimous support. “Lip service will not do the association any good,” said Mr F. C. Roberts (Te Kowhai) and he appealed to every member oi the Farmers’ Union to stand behind their word and strongly support the Pig Marketing Association.
Uniform Grading System. The remit was unanimously passed, but a further motion moved by Mr G. T. Crawley (Te Awamutu) that the association be asked to kill as much as possible in the Auckland province at the Farmers’ Freezing Works was also carried.
The following motion moved by Mr D. B. Higgins (Matamata) was carried unanimously: “That the Government be asked to establish an official and uniform grading system applicable to all pigs slaughtered, the standards set being based on both local and export market requirements, the grading to be carried out by Government graders, and the cost of the same to be met by a levy, on all pigs slaughtered, whether for local or export trade?*
