WOMEN’S DIVISION

DIPTON. At the monthly meeting of the Dipton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, the president, Mrs McDonald, presided. The roll call, “A verse of peetry,” was well responded to. Two girls were nominated to attend the girls’ educational week. The winners of the competitions were: Best bloom, Mrs Lindsay 1, Mrs Reece 2, Mrs J. Giles 3; best covered box, Miss E. Nelson 1, Mrs Lindsay 2. RIVERTON BRANCH. There was a large attendance at the monthly meeting of the Riverton branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. The president, Miss McNaughton, presided. It was decided to send two or three girls to the Educational ,Week to be held in Invercargill from June 29 to July 5, a ballot to be taken of the names submitted. It was decided to have a cake and produce stall at the July meeting, and to hold a baking competition, prizes to be awarded for shortbread, pikelets, girdle scones and seed cake to be judged by Mrs T. McNeil. Mrs Jones, of South Riverton, gave a demonstration of rug-making, exhibiting several rugs cleverly made from wool and scrap materials. The bloom competition resulted as follows: Mrs Martin 1, Mrs Helm 2, and Mrs Smythe 3.
